"The Gospel Of Eunuch" by Nikolai Atanasov completes the profile of the first multidimensional gay identity in the entire Bulgarian literary tradition. Based on the restored ancient prototype of the contemporary gay man - the eunuch - this project imports a central topic from Western biblical scholarship straight to the heart of contemporary Bulgarian queer culture: Saint Matthew's defense of the eunuchs, who are "born this way"(19:12). This defense by Jesus of Nazareth, according to the Gospel, has been lost for Bulgaria from the very beginning of printed history because of negligent mistranslation( automatically castrating and erasing eunuchs from all Bulgarian editions of the Holy book). Nikolai Atanasov has become a reluctant savior by importing groundbreaking biblical scholarship, which highlights the mistranslation and resurrects all homosexual men after many centuries of erasure. And this volume of collected poetry transforms the monumental historic event into artistic triumph. Hope is real and omnipotent in this celebration, because the new age of Internet makes it accessible from every computer around the world. The truth is out there: Saint Matthew may have used a legitimate Aramaic source, when he wrote his text in the Greek language, because the classification of the eunuchs by Jesus of Nazareth, according to the Gospel, is truly prophetic - it anticipates modern research on hormonal imbalance. The born eunuchs were, indeed, the homosexual men of the ancient world. And we even have a biblical scholar, who has collected evidence about their perception by society during biblical times.
