 | Music Platform Will Lead the Rainbow Friendship March 2009

The message of the march is positive - PRO friendship, understanding between the people and acceptance.
A music platform with a special decoration will lead the Rainbow Friendship 2009 this Saturday (27 June 2009). DJ and dancers will entertain together with the participants of the march along the streets of Sofia. Later the party will move to the Red House where DJ XYZ and DJ Pikebass will take care of the good mood with a selection of house and remixed disco hits, fresh disco, hip-hop and electro.
"This is not a demonstration of someone's sexual orientation and it's clearly declared in the motto of the event - the friendship has no sexuality. The human rights and the equality before the law are basic human principles and the Bulgarian society should not avoid the discussion on their violation. The sexual orientation is not a trendy movement which on joins by their own will, it's a part of one’s identity", the organizers comment.
"The message is against the demonization of the part of the Bulgarian citizens, it's positive - PRO friendship, understanding between the people and accepting as the name Rainbow friendship suggests. The idea of the march is to show that the Bulgarian society accepts the people with their differences and respects their basic human rights.
The homosexuals and the heterosexuals who support the march are not less Bulgarians, neither they are second class people. That's why similar to last year this is protest against the radical understandings and the far-wing moods in a modern 21st century society."
Rainbow friendship 2009 received official support from 11 diplomatic missions in Bulgaria, the Higher Commission for Refugees of United Nations, The Greens political party, Bulgarian Socialist Youth, Anarchosaprotiva anarchist group, International gay and Lesbians Human Rights Commission, International Queer Solidarity Network, Indymedia, famous Bulgarian bloggers, the Red House, rainbow Rose, Amnesty International, European Solidarity Without Borders and numerous international human rights organizations.
The march attracted huge international interest - the march will be in the focus of national and international media at 27 June when the world will commemorate the events of Stonewall - the first mass protests for the rights of the homosexuals.
The march will start at 4pm from the bridge near the National Palace of Culture and will end in the Center for culture and debated The Red House where the cultural event will be held - Queer Video Art - presentation of the works of LGBT artists.
This year the event will be guarded stronger. Thorax clinics will handle the medical support of the event.
All participants should carry ID cards. The organizers call for peaceful march without provocations and confrontations. The participants should wear comfortable clothing. For safe leaving the march the participants should notify the organizers.
Due to security reasons no participants will be allowed to join after the start of the march from its start point so every supported should come to the Bridge near NDK not later than 4:30 pm.
