"Organic Forms" by Nikolay Atanasov
23 December 2007

A new book "Organic Forms" by Nikolay Atanasov was published. Kultura newspaper wrote that it is "the first strong manifestation of the Bulgarian gay literature", and Politika weekly declared "Nikolay Atanasov has entered into the literature with a new style and skillful language provocations making the poetry into a valuable cultural product".

Nikolay Atanasov has several national prizes among them the prestigious "Southern Spring" for best debut book in 1999. He is also the compiler of the first by its type research of the roots of the Bulgarian gay culture published in a special edition of the Literature Gazette (issue 19, 2000).

"Organic Forms" by Nikolay Atanasov raises the presence of gay poetry in Bulgarian literature to a degree, beyond which we can no longer pretend that "such thing" doesn’t exist, or if it exists – that it does not matter… The first strong act in Bulgarian gay poetry."
Prof. Milena Kirova, "Kulture"

"If an event is that, which cannot be contained inside any pre-established horizons, then for me the event of 2007 was Nikolay Atanasov’s book of poems "Organic Forms". This devastating autobiographical material is also subversive literature – an attempt to surprise tradition from behind, to pull out an alternative literary canon of the suppressed otherness, following the axis Liliev-Vutimski-Georgi Mitzkov. Written abroad, to which it probably owes a part of its freedom, this book is also surprisingly timely – it would help if it’s read in Bulgarian schools, which are plagued with violence."
Bilyana Kurtasheva, "Literaturen vestnik"
